IPN is an independent private media agency created by the journalists of a municipal press agency, closed by the authorities for political reasons in 2005. Since restarting, IPN has produced news and analytics for in Romanian, Russian and English, now reaching out to over 400,000 readers directly. It is also a key source of primary information for independent media and an important platform for civil society and pro-democracy activists critical of the Moldovan government and oligarchic groups. A politically motivated increase of its rent in a government building, as well as cancellations of its contracts with government agencies have put IPN in danger of closure. EED funding will support IPN to function continuously as a media outlet and press room for pro-democracy organisations before the 2018 parliamentary elections.
