Initiatives

Our work

Since inception, EED has supported over 600 initiatives aimed at promoting democracy in the EU neighbourhood and beyond. This database provides an insight into the work of EED partners over the years. However, due to the sensitive nature of certain initiatives and personal security risks facing some grantees in the restrictive environments where they operate, not all initiatives are listed in the database.

  • Boom 93

    Country: Serbia

    Boom93 is an independent radio and news portal from Pozarevac, in Central-Eastern Serbia. They also manage a public space for civil society, media and other actors to promote democracy, rule of law and human rights. After many sponsors withdrew their advertising from the radio station because of the Covid-19 pandemic, EED emergency support is allowing them to continue operations in this time of crisis, paying for the editorial staff’s salaries, overhead costs, work equipment and online promotion.

  • Urban Action Lab

    Country: Serbia

    EED is providing support to the Institute for Urban Politics, an Serbian urban collective, to build Urban Action Lab, an open community space. The aim is to build a free, autonomous space for small grassroot community initiatives to gather and plan their future actions together. This would allow them to initiate dialogue on different urban issues, strengthening the base for social democratisation and citizen’s participation.

  • Pride Info Center

    Country: Serbia

    The Belgrade Pride Info Centre aims to contribute to the creation of a more open and tolerant society in Serbia by promoting LGBTI rights through the organisation of Belgrade Pride Week as well as annual events throughout the year. They do this by offering inclusive space that acts as a creative hub for events including exhibitions, performances, movie screenings, debates and discussions organised by SOGI organisations. It ultimately aims to inform the wider public on issues related to the SOGI community, to challenge stereotypes and to raise awareness about LGBTI rights.

    Representing 8000 journalists from the Western Balkans, the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia is a regional platform that advocates for media freedom and journalist’s safety in the region. The EED is providing bridge support to the network so it may continue its operations and strengthen its capacity to create a favourable legal and social environment for media pluralism.

  • Media in the service of democracy

    Country: Serbia

    Juzune Vesti is an independent online media platform in Serbia that aims to fill the current ‘information vacuum’ at the local level by enriching their content with stories from smaller cities within Serbia. The platform will allow rural citizens outside of Belgrade, who are subjected to strong media censorship, to access unbiased information and reporting on political, social and economic issues. To this end, with EED’s support Juzune Vesti will strengthen the capacity of correspondents in smaller municipalities in Serbia to produce content.

    Country: Serbia

    FoNet, one of the most reputable independent media agencies in Serbia, will receive a grant to purchase new equipment with the aim of improving technical standards and quality of their products.
