Initiatives

Our work

Since inception, EED has supported over 600 initiatives aimed at promoting democracy in the EU neighbourhood and beyond. This database provides an insight into the work of EED partners over the years. However, due to the sensitive nature of certain initiatives and personal security risks facing some grantees in the restrictive environments where they operate, not all initiatives are listed in the database.

  • Rabat Social Studies Institute

    Country: Morocco

    Rabat Social Studies Institute is a public policy think tank which has been involved in different research projects related to youth, women, LGBTQI, social inclusion, violence and migration since its foundation in 2011. With EED’s support, they are focusing on the issue of violence in Moroccan schools, advocating for the adoption of non-violent communication methods into the curricula of future teachers and holding trainings for teachers.

  • Al Marah Association for Development and Solidarity

    Country: Morocco

    Morocco’s new constitution, adopted after the 2011 protests, introduced a more active role for civil society in local decision-making. From a gender perspective, however, women are still marginalised in regional institutions and governance. With EED’s contribution, al Mar’ah Association for Development and Solidarity is promoting gender parity and equality in the marginalised Hoceima region. They is conducting trainings for local authorities, as well as women’s rights awareness-raising campaigns.

  • Academy for Policy Analysis (APA)

    Country: Morocco

    MIPA is a young ‘think and do’ tank, producing independent, in-depth, timely and highly relevant analysis on local issues related to democratization of Morocco. Ultimately, MIPA’s work, published on their online platform, raises public awareness of current political issues by shedding a critical light on public policies in a constructive manner. With EED’s support, MIPA will offer young researchers, civil society members and activists support to improve their policy analysis skills to strengthen the impact of their advocacy efforts.

  • Tafra

    Country: Morocco

    Founded by two former leaders of youth movements including the ‘20th of February Youth Movement in 2011’, Tafra is a young ‘think and do’ tank that produces essential research on democratisation, constitutional history and parliamentary elections in Morocco. They provide citizens and political researchers with crucial data that is otherwise difficult to access.

  • Advocating for progressive Moroccan youth | Forum for Modernity and Democracy

    Country: Morocco

    Forum for Modernity and Democracy strives to counter the raising influence of conservative political and ideological currents on Moroccan youth.

  • Coalition Israr

    Country: Morocco

    Coalition Israr pour l'égalité et le empowerment is a young coalition consisting of 40 women’s rights’ organisations. Their main work is on women’s rights with a specific focus on rural communities. They aim to raise awareness and mobilise civil society organisations in rural and urban settings by playing an active role in countering violence against women. Thanks to EED support, they prepared a legal guidebook in Moroccan Arabic on how to deal with cases of gender-based violence and they staged a theatre play on the same issue.

    Clarté Ambition Courage is a collective of organisations setting up the first-of-a-kind cultural and political festival, called “Kamline” (Arabic for “Whole”), in Morocco.

    Country: Morocco

    Forum for Social Development Alternatives focuses on enabling youth in peripheral towns of Moroccan Al khemisset province to engage in policy-making processes at the local level.

    Country: Morocco

    By supporting this proposal, EED renewed support to Simsim Participation Citoyenne (hereinafter Simsim) - a Moroccan organisation that seeks to increase civil society and citizen-participation in local and national politics using online and offline tools.

  • Association Fomsour pour le Développement et la Coopération (AFDEC)

    Country: Morocco

    Moroccan civil society activities have traditionally been limited to large urban centres where the central governmental institutions are based and where international donors are active.
